Introduction to Centrifugal Slurry Pump Relay Systems

Centrifugal slurry pumps can be used in series to achieve long-distance transportation of solid materials; this is a type of slurry pump in series configuration.

There are two main methods:
1. Slurry pump relay with an intermediate feed tank;

2. Slurry pumps connected directly in series along the pipeline.

Advantages and disadvantages of two types of slurry pump relay systems:
1. Advantages and disadvantages of a slurry pump relay system with intermediate feed tanks:

Advantages: Low-pressure centrifugal slurry pumps can be used, requiring low-pressure pipelines, resulting in lower costs, and allowing the use of centrifugal seals;

Disadvantages: Multiple pumping stations and feed tanks need to be constructed, leading to high installation and maintenance costs for power supply and control devices at each pumping station, resulting in high overall costs.

2. Advantages and disadvantages of slurry pumps directly connected in series on the pipeline:

Advantages: Low-pressure centrifugal slurry pumps and low-pressure pipelines can be used, resulting in lower costs, and centrifugal seals can be employed;

Disadvantages: This arrangement is prone to water hammer when the slurry pump starts or stops suddenly.
